SAWISE Communications: Naadia van der Bergh

I'm in the department of Chemical of Engineering where I am doing a PhD.
My project is all about finding energy-efficient means of producing value-added chemicals in the petrochemicals industry. I have been with SAWISE since my honours year (2006) and have enjoyed Science Day exhibitions in the Cape Flats, Women's Day Events and of course the guidance I have received from SAWISE members, people like Romilla Maharaj and especially Prof Chinsamy-Turan. Perhaps the most rewarding part of the job is the actual outreach work where we get to interact with young girls who often think a career in Science is for amazingly clever people...even though they find many aspects of the broad field interesting, they have inhibitions about pursuing it because of a lack of guidance I believe. So that's what I love, I love saying YOU CAN DO IT!!
