Wonderboy Nxumalo

Born in Greytown in 1975, Wonderboy Nxumalo went to the Candabuthule High School. In 1994 he came to the Ardmore Ceramic Art Studio to begin an apprenticeship.

His love of stories and drawing soon found expression in clay. Inspired by John Muafangejo, his poetry and imagery was initially expressed mostly in black and white. In 1995 he studied printmaking at Caversham Press and contributed to the travelling exphibition The Spirit of Our Stories.

A storyteller, he uses the clay surface for his quirky narratives. An intaglio technique, scratching through a black background, is often used to these personalised tales. He now works with potter Phineas Mweli in Springvale.

Collections: He has work in the Unisa collection.
