Born in 1962, Nsundwane made clay oxen as a child. He had no formal training when he and his wife Matrina Jiyane came to the Ardmore Ceramic Art Studio in 1992, but they worked together: he modelled and she painted. Jiyane died in an unfortunate accident in 1997.
His talent for sculptural forms, wit and engaging narrative find strong expression in pieces influenced by Staffordshire portrait figures. Six months after arriving at Ardmore, he won the Novice Prize in the Natal Regional Ceramic Exhibition.
He models from solid clayforms which are them fired to 1200 degrees and finished in a variety of ceramic and painterly techniques.
His work has been seen on numerous exhibitions and is in the collections of the Tatham Gallery, Pietermaritzburg and the SA National Gallery.
