Born in 1963, Friedman has an MFA in Ceramic Sculpture with distinction from the University of Cape Town. She has taught art at school and children's workshops and has lectured at Cape Town's Technikon and in Canada and the USA. Since 1984 she has exhibited widely in solo and gropu shows, including in the UK and Canada.
Archetypal symbols, both personal and universal, and strong figurative imagery with dynamic presence characterises her work. Sculpture pieces are hand built and carved from either unfired brick clay or coarse, grogged clay, coloured and fired.
