Clementina van der Walt

Born in Johannesburg in 1952, the artist studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and later obtained a diploma in Ceramics from the Witwatersrand Technikon, where she taught for some years.

Since 1989 she has worked at her own studio in Paarl near Cape Town, employing a team of assistants who decorate ready-made tableware for an international market. She makes single pieces, which are painted and decorated in a bright painterly style, often using gold and silver lustre. Like her tableware, the inspiiration is West African textile design and the African landscape.

Collections: such as those of the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the Pretoria Art Gallery and the SA National Gallery.
