Barbara Jackson

Born in Cape Town in 1949, this self-trained artists founded the Barbara Jackson School of Ceramics in 1976. Promoting other artists' work and deeply involved in education, she taught at the Community Arts Project in Cape Town and wrote two books on clay instruction for schools.

As prominent SA ceramist, she has had numerous exhibitions in South Africa and in countries such as the USA, Switzerland and Belgium and the Far East since 1977. Later in 1998 she is curating an exhibition at SOFA in Chicago.

Her work is recognised world wide for its distinctive vibrancy, passionate shapes and dynamic colour use.

1997 Winner at Fifth World Triennial of Small Ceramics in Zagreb, Croatia.
