Biography

Gareth Witten has broad research interests in the quantitative sciences (mathematical, statistical, and computational). His current research involves building applications for a range of industries within South Africa and globally. He is the founder and director for Industry Science Solutions, a consulting company offering a wide range of services to corporate and government agencies. The primary mission of the company is to support clients in crucial business decisions using powerful analytical and simulation techniques. He is also currently involved in developing quantitative theories for social evolution (in particular, for financial markets), where he does research for an asset management company and hedge fund. Gareth worked in the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Department at UCT, was Director for Academic Studies and Research at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, was a cofounder of the South Africa Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis based at Stellenbosch University, and was visiting Professor at Rhodes University, Harvard University, UC Berkeley, Cambridge University and University of Paris Sud.
