MPhil in Mathematics of Finance (Department of Mathematics &
Applied Mathematics)
Admissions: To be approved by your Supervisor, the Departmental Postgraduate Committee
and the Head of the Department, Associate Professor C Thiart. Send applications with a CV and full academic transcript to Associate Professor S Lubbe. STA5000W: This degree may be conferred
after satisfactory completion of a dissertation embodying research
under the guidance of an approved supervisor. The normal duration for
the course is two years, although under exceptional circumstances, it
may be completed in one and a half years.
Entrance requirements: At least 65% for an Honours degree in Science or Commerce or in the 4th year of a Bachelor's degree, and a high level of mathematical and statistical ability.
STA5003W:
Course work will be made up of six compulsory modules.
Assessment of the course work will be through formal examinations as
well as a year mark for assignments, presentations and seminar
contributions.
STA5004W:
Mini-dissertation
Entrance requirements: At least 65% for an Honours degree in Science or Commerce or in the 4th year of a Bachelor's degree, and a high level of mathematical and statistical ability. This programme will not be offered in 2012.
