MPhil in Mathematics of Finance (Department of Mathematics & Applied Mathematics)


 

MSc (Full Dissertation)

Admissions: To be approved by your Supervisor, the Departmental Postgraduate Committee and the Head of the Department, Associate Professor C Thiart. Send applications with a CV and full academic transcript to Associate Professor S Lubbe.

STA5000W: This degree may be conferred after satisfactory completion of a dissertation embodying research under the guidance of an approved supervisor. The normal duration for the course is two years, although under exceptional circumstances, it may be completed in one and a half years.

Entrance requirements: At least 65% for an Honours degree in Science or Commerce or in the 4th year of a Bachelor's degree, and a high level of mathematical and statistical ability.


 

MSc (Coursework and Half Dissertation)

STA5003W: Course work will be made up of six compulsory modules. Assessment of the course work will be through formal examinations as well as a year mark for assignments, presentations and seminar contributions.

STA5004W: Mini-dissertation

Entrance requirements: At least 65% for an Honours degree in Science or Commerce or in the 4th year of a Bachelor's degree, and a high level of mathematical and statistical ability. This programme will not be offered in 2012.


 

PhD Programmes

Entrance requirements: A relevant Masters and Honours degree in Science or Commerce, and a high level of mathematical and statistical ability.

Postgraduate financial assistance: Funding is available through the University of Cape Town's Postgraduate Scholarships Office. Deadlines for applications for international students is 31 July for the next academic year, and for local students is 31 October the next academic year.
