Statistical Consulting Service

 

 

The Statistical Consulting Service (SCS; Department of Statistical Science) offers a professional, statistical consultation service to postgraduate students and researchers at UCT as well as corporate and NGO clients. This service spans the following types of activities and is subject to stipulated Terms and Conditions of Service:

  • Assistance regarding research design (experiments or surveys), sampling design, questionnaire design and data collection methodology
  • Guidance for data capturing and verification
  • Advice on appropriate software for data analysis
  • Data cleaning, validation and manipulation
  • Conducting the analysis of data
  • Assistance with data interpretation
  • Referral to statistical specialists when required
  • Non-credit short training courses tailored for specific needs (on request)

It is strongly recommended that clients contact the consultancy at the onset of their project.

Procedure

1. Application

Please read the above terms and conditions and complete the Word document and submit to the consultancy either in person (Room 6.70, PD Hahn Building) or via email. The consultant will contact you within two days to arrange an initial meeting.

 

2. Initial Meeting

The purpose of the initial meeting is to familiarise the consultant with the nature of the project, the relevant background, the research methodology and the goals of the project. Thereafter the client specifies expectations regarding the role of the consultancy. Clients are requested to bring along any and all information that will assist the consultant to understand the project.

 

3. Subsequent Meetings

Additional meetings will be scheduled as necessary.
