Background:
Marius is responsible for the smooth running of two of the ADU's long-term
bird monitoring projects. The Coordinated Waterbird Counts (CWAC)
project, being the focus, takes up most of his time within the unit.
Additionally he also coordinates the Birds In Reserves Project (BIRP) as
well as the Nest Record Card Scheme (NERCS) to a lesser extent.
Through his time at the ADU, Marius has been involved with various research
and training projects throughout South Africa, including countries such
as Namibia, Botswana and recently as far a field as Ghana. Marius
enjoys the traveling and usually squeezes in a bit of birding where he
can since he enjoys this as a past time as well. Marius is also a
qualified bird-ringer and helps out with various ringing and monitoring
projects around Cape Town. He is currently busy with a small study with
regards the distribution patterns of Caspian Terns in South Africa.
Other interests include cycling, woodwork and bee farming! |
