African Seabird Group African Seabird Group was a co-sponsor of the secretariat to the second negotiating meeting of the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels in January 2001. It part-funded John Cooper's attendance at the annual meeting of the Pacific Seabird Group in 2002

BirdLife South Africa BirdLife International supported the Seabird Conservation Programme for the first three months of 2001.
BirdLife South Africa BirdLife South Africa provides support for the South African Bird Ringing Project (SAFRING) and for the monitoring projects, especially the Coordinated Avifaunal Roadcounts (CAR), Coordinated Waterbird Counts (CWAC), Birds In Reserve Project (BIRP) and the Nest Record Card Project (NERCS).
Campus Camera Campus camera provided film to Kathy Calf and Les Underhill and processed it at cost price. This enabled them to record their experiences in Siberia.
Cape Storm Cape Storm provided Kathy Calf and Les Underhill with warm clothing and sleeping bags at a big discount enabling them to survive the harsh climate of Siberia in the "summer" of 2002.
IUCN
Conservation Breeding Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission helped sponsor John Cooper's attendance of their annual meeting on Rottnest Island, West Australia, in 2001. It also supported the Seabird CAMP (Conservation Assessment and Management Plan) Workshop in Cape Town in 2002
Species Survival Commission sponsored part of the work of the Seabird Conservation Programme.
CSIR CSIR (Environmentek) contracted the ADU to undertake several tasks.
Darwin Initiative The Darwin Initiative of the UK Government supports the South African Penguins project through Earthwatch Europe.
Department of Environment and Tourism Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism supports SAFRING and the Southern African Frog Atlas Project
Earthwatch Institute Earthwatch Institute sent six teams of four volunteers each to assist with fieldwork on Robben Island in 2001, and the project is being repeated in 2002. The project is called South African Penguins. The diaries of the six teams from 2001 are on the ADU website. This project also provided funding for the purchase of equipment such as telescopes and assistance for postgraduate students who helped lead the expeditions
European Bird Census Committee European Bird Census Committee sponsored Les Underhill's attendance at their conference in Nyirighaza, Hungary, in March 2001

Department of Environment and Tourism
The ADU works closely with the Marine and Coastal Management, of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, on a variety of seabird and shorebird projects. In particular, we acknowledge their generous sharing of the MCM house on Robben Island, and for their help with transportation to the offshore islands
Mazda Wildlife The Mazda Wildlife Fund has continuously provided the Avian Demography Unit with a vehicle for more than a decade. This provides transport for all the projects, but especially for the Southern African Frog Atlas Project
Namibian Nature Foundation Namibian Nature Foundation provided support for the February 2002 seabird workshop. It arranged sponsorship for Barbara Paterson's PhD research. It also helped sponsor Jessica Kemper's PhD research
National Research Foundation National Research Foundation (NRF) supports Les Underhill's research programmes, and provides bursaries to postgraduate students through these research programmes. PhD student Silvia Mecenero was awarded a three-year prestigous bursary from the NRF
New England Aquarium New England Aquarium helped sponsor aspects of Jessica Kemper's doctoral research in Luderitz
New Zealand Government New Zealand Government was a co-sponsor of the secretariat to the second negotiating meeting of the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels
Penguin Fund Japan Penguin Fund Japan supported the February 2002 Seabird CAMP Workshop
Porter's Auto Porter's Auto, through Colin Schmidt, selected a used vehicle in excellent condition and provided it at cost for use on Robben Island
Robben Island Museum Robben Island Museum provides logistical support to students and staff on Robben Island

UCT
University of Cape Town (UCT) sponsors the ADU in several ways. Firstly, it provides the ADU with its basic infrastructure: serviced accommodation, computer facilities, libraries, access to the internet, financial management, etc, etc. Secondly, the University Research Committee provides financial support, both for research projects and for students
University of Groningen University of Groningen. Dr Henk Visser, of the Centre for Isotope Research and the Zoological Institute of the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, sponsored the doubly labelled water and associated analysis for both Kathy Calf's and Rene Navarro's PhD research projects
US Geological Survey US Geological Survey part-funded John Cooper's attendance of the Pacific Seabird Group's Annual Meeting in 2002

Vogelwarte
Vogelwarte Radolfzell. The Vogelwarte Radolfzell, Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, sponsored Les Underhill's airfare to Europe and attendance at the 100th anniversary conference of the Vogelwarte Radlofzell in Konstanz, Germany. They also sponsored the eight satellite-tracking devices attached to the White Stork fledglings
WWF The ADU currently has three contracts with WWF South Africa. WWF has supported the Southern African Frog Atlas Project since its inception. It has been a long-term sponsor of CWAC, the waterbird monitoring project. Recently, it has been a key supporter of a project to improve the conservation status of southern Africa's seabirds
