Adjunct Teachers

Gys Hofmeyr SC
Gys Hofmeyr was a co-presenter of the first maritime law course at UCT in 1981 and has remained involved in part time teaching of admiralty jurisdiction and practice since.

Adv Hofmeyr practised for many years at the Cape Bar, specialising almost entirely in admiralty matters. This means that he has been able to keep us up-to-the-minute on developments in admiralty law. He has given wonderful practical content to our course, and we are most grateful that we are able each successive year to persuade him to give his time to us.

In recognition of his great contribution to the teaching of shipping law, the University of Cape Town through the Faculty of Law has appointed Adv Hofmeyr Adjunct Professor.

We look forward to Professor Hofmeyr's continued close association with our admiralty teaching.

Etiene Swanepoel is an LLM graduate of UCT, and is a partner of the Cape Town firm, Edward Nathan Friedlander Inc. He specialises in taxation and has taught part-time on the UCT LLM tax programme for a number of years. We appreciate his giving time to us to teach financial and taxation aspects of owning a ship.

Etienne publishes a weekly column "JSE Microscope" in the Business Report section of SA's major daily newspapers.
