Search results include documents referenced in the articles (with transcripts and original scans available), as well as documents lodged at the Manuscripts and Archives Department of UCT Libraries.

Use the search box in the margin for a simple search of all fields in the index.

For advanced search (below) enter terms in relevant fields, then click Search to generate results. Click on the question mark (?) next to a field to find out more about it.

Use underscore _ to represent any character, and percentile % to represent any string.

e.g. anti_apartheid will match both "anti Apartheid" and "Anti-Apartheid"; south%africa will match both "South Africa" and "southern Africa"

Search for a term through all fields rather than limiting to a specific search. e.g. search for van Riebeeck in title, keyword and source (and other fields)

A Correlation Number refers to the original document as referenced by an article. e.g. 1.2.3 refers to the third document referred to in the second article of Volume 1.

The Document Number is the unique identification number for each original document, available on the CD, referenced by an article or archived in the library.

Enter the maximum number of results to return. e.g. 10, 100
Leave blank to return all results.

Select which field to order results by. One of Document number (unique identification number), Correlation number (as referenced by article e.g. 1.2.3), Title or Publisher.
