Navigation
Select Help from the menu at any time for context-sensitive instructions. Select All help topics to read all help items at once.
Use the menu or Main page to navigate between the Volumes and Document Index. Select Chapters from the contents page of each Volume.
Quick Search
Enter any term in the menu textbox and click Search to find all occurrences of that term in the titles or text of the Documents. (Use the Document Index to refine your search.)
Use underscore _ to represent any character, and percentile % to represent any string.
e.g. zool_ will match both "zoolu" and "zoola", anti_apartheid will match both "anti Apartheid" and "Anti-Apartheid";
Footnotes
Footnote references appear in square brackets, e.g. [3] Clicking on the reference number takes you to the footnote below the article text. Clicking on the footnote number takes you back to the reference.
Document references
Document references appear in Select one of Text (plain text), PDF Transcript (formatted PDF) or Scan (original scan) to view that version of the document.
In a few instances original documents were not available to scan.
Document Index
Enter text or values in the fields you wish to search under. Show and hide the Instructions by clicking on (Hide) and (Show).
For more details on a particular field click the (?) question mark next to it.
