CD-ROM

This CD-ROM conceptualised, designed and managed by Bastienne Klein, developed and produced by d@vid seaward. Significant contributions were made by Steve Martin, Juan Garcés and Kim Williams.

About the cover artist

The cover drawing is by Mxolisi Poni, 23 years; original in pencil drawn specially in response to the theme of these volumes. Mxolisi spent his early years in the Transkei and now resides in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, Cape Town. He left school early in order to act as family breadwinner, and is a wholly self-taught artist who dreams of being a professional, a dream he hopes still to fulfil.

Background texture

The background texture was taken from document 214, the PMC Minutes of October 22nd, 1895. This document is stored in the Manuscripts and Archives Department of UCT Libraries. (Contact details below.)

Access speed

New pages may be briefly delayed while the CD-ROM is being accessed. The speed of large file downloads and database queries is hardware dependent.

Quality of original document scans

In some cases the original material was preserved only by transcription; in these cases a scan of the transcription is provided. In cases where original material was not available only a transcript is provided. As original documents may have faded or worn, the scan quality may have suffered in some cases.

Documents without correlation numbers

Documents with correlation numbers are referenced in the volume chapters and are available on the CD-ROM. They appear with their correlation numbers in search results. Other documents in the index are not available on the CD-ROM, but are lodged at the Manuscripts and Archives Department of UCT Libraries. Please note that a charge may be levied for reproduction and postage.
