The Institute was started in 1981 \par \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 In 1985 a very significant development took place within ICT, namely, the publication of The Kairos Document which identified three main categories of theology. These were }{\b\fs24\cgrid0 state theology, church theology and prophetic theology}{\fs24\cgrid0 (a copy is available on request). \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 On "reconciliation" ICT.s standpoint is to be found in 3.1 of the Kairos Document (M). It states clearly: \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 There can be no doubt that our Christian faith commits us to work for }{\fs24\ul\cgrid0 true}{\fs24\cgrid0 reconciliation and }{\fs24\ul\cgrid0 genuine }{\fs24\cgrid0 peace. But as so many people, including Christians, have pointed out there can be no true reconciliation and no genuine peace }{\fs24\ul\cgrid0 without iustice. . . \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\ul\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 The argument goes further to state that "the problem we are dealing with is not merely a problem of personal guilt, it is a problem of structural injustice". The TRC according to the present Act has been dealing with personal guilt. This is to be commended. It is therapeutic. Unfortunately, there a re three flaws in this: \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \fi-428\li457\nowidctlpar\tx29\tx447\tx507\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 1.\tab The therapy seems to be more accessible to those burdened with guilt, and there seems to be very little redress for the victim/survivor. This cannot be blamed on the TRC but on the Act itself. \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tx447\tx2852\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\fi-457\li457\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 2.\tab The architects of a heinous sys tem that allowed such practices to go on and proliferate are going on their normal business, denying involvement and responsibility. No serious restitution seems to come to their thinking. Apartheid was declared a heresy by the churches. How can perpetrat ors then continue to receive huge pensions for plunging the country into near chaos? \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tqr\tx1177\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par {\pntext\pard\plain\hich\af0\dbch\af0\loch\f0 3.\tab}}\pard \qj\fi-360\li485\nowidctlpar\tx149\jclisttab\tx485{\*\pn \pnlvlbody\ilvl0\ls1\pnrnot0\pndec\pnstart3\pnindent485\pnhang{\pntxta .}}\ls1\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 The victims/survivors have not been addressed collectively as sinned\_ against citizens by the members of the previous government to the effect that they realise that their policies plunged the country and its people into untold harm. This is extremely regrettable. True repentance has been lacking from \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\tx149\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tx836\tx1421\tx1997\tx2588\tx2914\tqr\tx3822\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \sect }\sectd \pgwsxn11909\pghsxn16834\linex0\headery709\footery709\colsx709\sectdefaultcl \pard\plain \qc\nowidctlpar\adjustright \fs20\lang2057\cgrid { \fs24\cgrid0 2. \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \li720\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 the people who actually passed inhuman laws which went so far as to corrupt even the justice system. \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 ICT is aware that the TRC Act was passed as it is in the interests of peace and harmony. The question is how long can this peace last if it appears forced by the laws of the country rather than the Law of God? It will only delay an eruption that will only delay a n eeruption that will occur as more and more people feel cheated (though quite unintentionally) by the present act. \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tqr\tx5622\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \qj\nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 As a prophetic movement. ICT has to continue to point out that it is necessary some time to actually do the right thing and attempt to bring justice to bear if true reconciliation is to take place. \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 \par }\pard \nowidctlpar\tx7890\tqr\tx9375\adjustright {\fs24\cgrid0 This is a very short response to the TRC.
