Representing Christianity in Parliament

The legacy of Christianity in South Africa is plural and ambiguous. Christianity was the cry of both oppressor and liberator. In South Africa's democratic parliament, the identity of Christianity continues to be contested.

In 1997, RICSA was approached by Rev Frank Chikane to do special research on the different ways Christianity was being represented in the Parliament since 1994. RICSA produced a report based on its research involving press clippings and Hansard minutes. The research was also informed by a paper on the rhetoric of Christianity in parliament by Jan Botha.
