Research Methods Modules - 2012

Below you will find descriptions of the research methods modules currently convened by our department.

Modules will only be offered if a sufficient number of students have enrolled.

Each 5-level research methods module has a weighting of a half course (i.e. 12 credits).


POL5035S Data Analysis in Political Sciences (offered in 2012)

HEQF credits: 12 at level 9.

Entrance requirements: By permission of the course convener.

Course outline: This course involves a weekly two-hour seminar and a two-hour laboratory session over six weeks. In the first session of each week, the instructor will cover the basic principles of a statistical technique, and in the second session students will execute those techniques on their own data. The course will introduce students to computer assisted data analysis and cover univeriate, bivariate and multivariate statistical techniques.

DP requirements: Completion of all presentations and/or assignments as stipulated by the course convener.

Assessment: Coursework 100% (which includes participation, laboratory work, exercises and assignments)
