Liver Clinic

Clinics are only held on Tuesday mornings, and on certain Wednesday afternoons. The waiting list is approximately 4 weeks, though it is possible for us to see urgent cases more quickly, provided this has been discussed with us by your doctor.

Please note that we offer a tertiary referral service. This means that we are unable to accept bookings from patients unless they have been referred to us by their own doctors.If your doctor has suggested that you be seen by us, or has agreed that you should do so, contact us on 021-4066394 to make a booking. (If the office is unmanned, you will be asked to leave your details on an answering machine, and will be contacted as soon as possible.)

Porphyria Clinic

The Porphyria Clinic is held every second week on a Wednesday afternoon. Phone (021) 4045343 for bookings.

As a general policy we will only see patients after they have been tested for porphyria by us, or by an approved laboratory, and have received their results. This is because our Porphyria Clinic is there only to look after and advise patients who indeed have porphyria. Not infrequently patients are referred to us only to be told that they do not have porphyria: in such cases, their time is wasted.

Secondly, we can only give patients the best advice if we have recent, accurate porphyria tests available, since this allows us to gauge both the type of porphyria they have as well as its activity. Again, if they see us before these resutls are available, we are forced to repeat the tests ourselves, send them away to await results and them see them a second time before we can advise them properly.
