SEDIMENTATION AND TECTONISM IN THE NATAL VALLEY
Sedimentary and geophysical data are being used to study the Mesozoic and Cenozoic evolution of the Natal Valley. This research is specifically aimed to characterising hemipelagic sedimentation in the Natal Valley, and to search for evidence of Holocene tectonism as a result of a postulated southward extension of the East African rift valley off Port Shepstone.
 
MANGANESE NODULES IN THE MOZAMBIQUE BASIN

Ferromanganese nodules sampled in the southern Mozambique Basin are being studied to correlate their internal structure, mineralogy and geochemistry with other nodules studied in the south eastern Cape Basin and on the Mozambique Ridge.
