|
The Geological Sciences Department at UCT draws its research strengths from historical expertise in
geochemistry, strong analytical facilities, and the geologic wonderland of southern Africa. We have an academic staff of 11
spanning a broad range of specialties in the geological sciences. We have a strong cadre in igneous petrology and geochemistry,
with foci in stable and radiogenic isotopes and the evolution of magmas. Other strengths include the evolution of southern Africa,
with concentrations in early plate tectonics, stratigraphy, and marine sedimentology/geochemistry. Many members of the
department run active field programs across South Africa and neighboring countries.
Go to our staff page to learn about individual research programs, or read more about our facilities and analytical capabilities. If you are considering enrolling at UCT, you might want to take a look at our Postgrads listing to see what kind of projects our students typically do. |
