About Dane

I graduated with a BSc in Biology and a BSc (Honours) in Ecology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville in 2009. My undergraduate research focused on the distribution and behavioural ecology of elephant after reintroduction into St Lucia Wetland Park, South Africa. and my Honours research on the synergistic effects of elephant and impala on woody species recruitment within the Hluhluwe – iMfolozi Park. I then worked as an intern with SANBI working with the Centre for Invasion Biology on barcoding invasive plant and animal species within South Africa.

My research interests cover a wide range of topics within the natural sciences, in particular, telemetry and population monitoring, in which I gained experience as an undergraduate. I am currently looking at the changing breeding syndrome of African Black Oystercatchers (Haematopus moquini).

Thesis

Changing breeding syndrome of African Black Oystercatchers (Supervisor: Prof. Phil A.R. Hockey).
