Kimon de Greef
Email:
kimon.degreef@uct.ac.za
Kimon was
born in London to South African parents. They wisely brought him home before
his first birthday, so he has no memories of the big city except for maybe
having chicken pox once. He has lived in Cape Town ever since. He grew up in
Hout Bay, went to school at Westerford, played sport with his friends and went
on lots of surf trips. After matriculating he migrated up the hill to study
biology at UCT, completing his Honours degree in 2010. His research project
investigated a newly arrived invasive mussel on South Africa’s west coast.
After honours, Kimon travelled for a year in east Africa and Europe. He is back
at school because he takes pleasure in the pursuit of knowledge, especially the
scientific sort, and because he would like to become a well-informed and
enjoyable popular science writer one day. In his spare time he collects music
from around the world, plays percussion, occasionally DJs, writes, swims, and
waters his vegetable garden.
