Anthony van Zyl did his undergraduate BSc degree at the University of Pretoria, his BSc (Hons) degree at Rhodes University and his MSc at the University of Cape Town. He studied the biology of the Rock Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus rupicolus) in the Tarkastad District, Eastern Cape for his Masters thesis. He then worked as the Curator of Birds at the Transvaal Museum from 1994 to 1999 under the leadership of Dr Alan Kemp and later moved down to Cape Town in 1999 where he worked in the computer industry. Anthony continues his Rock Kestrel research on a part time basis and is particularly interested in life history and population dynamics of the Rock Kestrel population on the Cape Peninsula.
