WHY STUDY ENGLISH?
The Department of English Language and Literature offers students a major in English and a major in Linguistics. All courses offered in the English Department equip students for a broad range of challenging careers. The enriching knowledge gained goes far beyond vocational specializations.

There is a major in English and a major in Linguistics.

WHICH MAJOR OR PROGRAMME SHALL I CHOOSE?
Your choice of a major or programme will depend on your interests and career objectives. Undergraduate courses equip students with skills relevant to a wide variety of careers. For some careers, further specialized training may be necessary.
IF I AM NOT SURE ABOUT MY CAREER INTERESTS, SHOULD I STILL CONSIDER ENROLLING FOR COURSES IN THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT?
Effective verbal and written communication skills are basic requirements in all professions. Courses in the English Department engage students in the development of these skills.
DO WE GET INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION?
Students attend lecture series and, in addition, are able to get more individual attention in tutorials and seminars. In first year, Academic Development tutorials are available for students who feel the need for specialized tuition in a small group.
