RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT
Members of the Department of English Language and Literature work across a wide range with interests in Medieval studies, stylistics, sociolinguistics, literatures in English (including African, American, Australasian, British, Caribbean and Indian), literatures in translation, creative writing, translation, literary criticism, literary history, bibliographical work and scholarly text editing, literary theory, feminist studies, postcolonial studies, and film, media and cultural studies.
A notice-board has been set aside in the Department to publicise recent student and staff publications. The annual UCT Research Reports can be consulted for details of the Department's publications.
Students with a special interest in research may undertake long essays and dissertations at appropriate levels and under certain conditions. Permanent staff members are normally prepared to supervise long essays and dissertations in the areas of their research.
