What is it all about?
The purpose of this newsletter is to support health workers with their information needs on Maternal and Child Health (MCH) issues, and to provide a forum for health workers to exchange news and experience on MCH. It will also tell you about more infor mation and resources which can be obtained through the MCH Information and Resource Centre based at the Child Health Unit (UCT), or from other agencies.

Our target audience
We aim to focus on the needs of all health workers at the primary care and district level This includes nurses, midwives, doctors, social workers, and anyone else working to improve the health of mothers and children. In particular, it aims to
support MCH health workers in rural and isolated areas of South Africa.

What kinds of information?

Appropriate clinical information for primary and district level MCH services.
Health policy issues related to MCH.
Information about other agencies, organisations and resource centres that may support your delivery of MCH services.
New and appropriate research.
Resources for teaching and training.
Resources for supporting the PHC approach.

Contents
The areas which we focus on in maternal and child health are research, policy, social science, resources, training courses, management protocols and maternal and child health news. Here are some of the topics covered in previous editions of MCH News.
