IMAGING, CALORIMETRY & SPECTROPHOTOMETRY CORE FACILITY

The Core Facility is an inter-departmental facility situated in Chemical Pathology, which performs chemical imaging, electronic autoradiography, isothermal titration calorimetry & UV/VIS spectrophotometry using current technology.

Alpha-Innotech Chemi-Imager
  • Digital imaging of visible, UV, fluorescent and chemiluminescent samples.

  • e.g. protein gels, autorads, film, plates, fluorescent gels, colorimetric blots and membranes, TLCs , etc.

  • Reflective and transilluminated visible (white) & UV light sources.

  • Colour filters to correspond with your sample staining.

  • Software for image enhancement and analysis.

  • Acquisition and analysis can be done by the facility operator or the user.

  • Please contact me here to book the Chemi-Imager if you require it for more than 30 min and I will add your booking to the calendar below.
Click the Week or Agenda tab for a more detailed view.

Cyclone Storage Phosphor System   (Phosphor-Imager)
  • Electronic autoradiography system which measures radioactivity in any flat sample e.g. protein gels, blots, membranes, TLCs.

  • Comprised of storage phosphor screens to expose your sample, a laser scanning device to read the resulting latent image, and image analysis software for quantifying the radioactivity.

  • Any radionuclide can be read e.g. 14C, 35S, 32P, 3H.
For 3H there are special phosphor screens available.

  • Capable of producing very high resolution images up to 600dpi.

  • The Cyclone scanner is operated by skilled personnel only.
Image analysis can be done by the user.

  • Please contact me here to book the Phosphor Imager.

ITC200 Isothermal Titration Calorimeter
  • Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) is a powerful analytical tool which measures the binding affinity and thermodynamics between any two biomolecules.

  • ITC directly measures the heat released or absorbed during molecular binding.

  • Measurement of this heat enables direct accurate determination of these thermodynamic parameters in a single experiment: binding affinity (KD), stoichiometry (n), enthalpy (ΔH) and entropy (ΔS)

  • Wide range of applications including characterization of molecular interactions with small molecules, proteins, antibodies, nucleic acids, lipids, metal ions, etc., as well as enzyme kinetics & inhibitor studies.

  • Small volumes: 200 μl of sample per experiment.

  • The ITC200 is operated by skilled personnel only.
Analysis can be done by the user.

  • Visit the Microcal website for more information about ITC.

  • Please contact me here to book the ITC200 and I will add your booking to the calendar below. Click the Week or Agenda tab for a more detailed view.

  • UV-Vis spectral acquisition and analysis in less than 1 second.

  • Absorbance & time-based kinetic modes.

  • Powerful acquisition & data analysis software.

  • Acquisition and analysis can be done by the facility operator or the user.

  • Please contact me here to book the spectrophotometer.
