Activity 15: Reading the finished drafts in the group with discussion

This is the best part. Sit in a circle and take turns reading each child's story to the group. Read only two or three per session. The group can invite special guests to attend these reading and discussion circles, to assist in witnessing, acknowledging and strengthening the specialhero qualities and stories of the children.

Somewhere around here, you might want to ask the children:

  • How did it feel to tell your story to someone else?
  • Did you learn anything about each other you did not know?
  • Do you feel like you are a hero in any way?
  • Who do you want to show your hero book to?
  • What do you want to do with your hero book?  Keep it as a bed-time reader?  Make another one just like it but maybe change your name and other identifying information, and put it in the school library?:  Allow one edited copy to be used to train other children to make hero books?
