The CPM teaches oral history practice by placing emphasis on interviewing skills, gender dynamics, dissemination, archiving and digital access.

We formulate our courses in a number of ways including:

  • 3 week 'Oral History Methodology' option in the Graduate School in Humanities post-graduate research methods course.
  • 7 week 3rd year overview course, 'Approaching Popular Memory'.
  • 5 week heritage research option in the Post-graduate Diploma in Heritage Management and Museum Studies.
  • 9 month Popular Memory internship programme, which includes hands-on oral history interviewing, archiving, copyright and dissemination training.
  • Lectures on aspects of Popular Memory for the Dept. of Historical Studies, UCT
  • Short training courses for archives, museums and NGO's
