Postgraduate studentships in Plant Systematics at the Univesity of Cape Town (UCT)

We invite applications for MSc (2 positions) and PhD (1 position) studentships on the Taxonomy, speciation and macroevolution of selected Cape Floristic Region (CFR) sedges, legumes or yams. Postgrads will be part of a strong research group specialising in sedges and legumes and includes scientists from UCT, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and other international links. The Project involves considerable fieldwork in the CFR and southern Africa; herbarium-based investigations; macro- and micro-morphological studies; phylogenetics and DNA sequencing; and nutritional ecological studies. Students with relevant qualifications are invited to apply for the study period 2009-2011. NRF bursaries, with top-up, are available for successful applicants.
