Archaeology is offered as a full major in both the science and humanities faculties.  This allows it to be incorporated into a curriculum with a wide range of subjects, depending on the interests of the student. 

 

Three year undergraduate degrees:

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in the Natural Sciences, or Environment and Society Programmes

Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSc)

 

Postgraduate degrees:

BSc/BA/BSocSc (Hons) in Archaeology (AGE400W).  The department offers a one year honors programme by course work and research. The student has to complete component courses as well as produce one research project.  Download further information on the Honours Programme here: Honours Info (.pdf file).  

BSc/BA/BSocSc (Hons) in Archaeology and Environmental Science (ERT400W).  The department coordinates a one year honours programme by course work in conjunction with the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science.  The student has to complete component courses as well as produce one research project.

BSc (Hons)/MSc in Quaternary Studies.  This interdisciplinary course is coordinated by the Archaeology Department and run jointly by UCT, UWC and the South African Museum.

MSc/MA, MPhil and PhD (by thesis).

Postgraduate Diploma in Museum Management, run jointly by UCT, University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the Robben Island Museum.
