STABLE LIGHT ISOTOPE LABORATORY
FACILITIES

Our equipment includes two light isotope mass spectrometers administered by an inter-departmental committee. We have a MAT 252 and a venerable (but venerated) VG602E. The MAT 252 is interfaced with a Kiel II (Bremen) Individual Acid Bath Device as well as a Carlo Erba NA1500 via a Conflo II. We are equipped to handle gases, (CO2, N2, H2,SO2, O2) from organic, silicate, carbonate and breath samples. Fields of research range widely from palaeo-dietary and palaeo-ecological re-constructions, lithogenesis, hydrology, botany, zoology, ecology, wildlife management to medical and sport science applications. The laboratory is also equipped with general-purpose vacuum distillation lines for routine gas preparation.

Further preparation facilities are located in the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the Department of Geological Sciences, right across the avenue.
