Somikazi Deyi

Ms Somikazi Dey

Somikazi Deyi has been involved in research on the use of multilingualism in higher education with a particular focus on the teaching of mathematics and science in the home language. In search of the best methods to teach mathematics with understanding, she has worked with academics in the field of mathematics and science offering a linguistic perspective to learning these subjects. The results of these collaborations have been shared through publications. Her own Masters thesis focused on the extent to which using isiXhosa to teach and learn mathematics enhances understanding of mathematics concepts. Teaching isiXhosa as a second language is also one of her interests.
