Stephanie de Villiers is a South African who graduated from the University of Stellenbosch and has a PhD from the University of Washington in chemical oceanography. Her research uses isotopes and trace elements to understand ocean chemistry and dynamics and its response to climate and tectonic evolution. She is presently also involved in modeling geochemical cycles and in forward modelling the interaction of Earth Systems with the biosphere to understand the dynamics of mass extinctions.
