Stephanie de Villiers is a South African who graduated from the
University of Stellenbosch and has a PhD from the University of Washington in
chemical oceanography. Her research uses isotopes and trace elements to understand
ocean chemistry and dynamics and its response to climate and tectonic
evolution. She is presently also involved in modeling geochemical cycles and
in forward modelling the interaction of Earth Systems with the biosphere to
understand the dynamics of mass extinctions. |

Formerly
a research fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of
Cambridge, UK,and a lecturer at the University of Natal, she is now a Senior
Lecturer in the Chemistry Department of Stellenbosch University. In AEON she
will continue to pursue her current lines of research, particularly studying
the chemistry of African river run-off its impact on global oceanic and
climate systems. |
