The Centre for Extra-Mural Studies is responsible for carrying
out the University's commitments in the development and provision of
public extra-mural study programmes. The Centre is part of the Centre
for Open Learning in the
Centre for Higher Education Development at the University
of Cape Town. Over the past ten years the Centre has made various other educational interventions, attempting to expand its constituency of learners from the historical Summer School audience to a more inclusive set of people and communities in the Western Cape. For example it has:
The twelve course of the 2006 Creative Arts and Languages Programme (CALP), intended to support the talents of people exploring their artistic potential, starts on the 24th of June. The eight course of the 2006 Public and Continuing Education (Winter Programme), aimed at education, training and development (ETD) practitioners, starts on the 19th of June. In addition the Centre manages the University
inaugural lectures during term time. These are an opportunity
for members of the public to hear newly appointed professors at UCT
discuss their current work. Details are published in the press and on
our web page.
