Welcome to the First International African Film and History Conference. The conference will be held at the University of Cape Town (UCT) from the 6th to the 8th of July, 2002.

This conference aims to stimulate research in the field of film and history in Africa by bringing together scholars from within and beyond the continent. It is an excellent opportunity to meet world experts on film and history as well as enjoying the wonderful cultural and environmental diversity of Cape Town.

The conference will be hosted by the Historical Studies and English Departments of the University of Cape Town, one of the leading universities on the African continent, and foremost research facilities in South Africa.

The conference fee, which does not include accommodation, will be R500 for participants from South Africa and SADC countries and $100 for others.

Delegates can visit the many museums, galleries and other cultural sites in and around Cape Town, take a ferry to Robben Island, walk through the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, tour around the Cape peninsula, go wine-tasting in the winelands, or, for the more energetic, hike up Table Mountain.
